The SDS Form
The chemical manufacturer or importer preparing the safety data sheet must ensure it is in English (although the employer may maintain copies in other languages as well).
The SDS must include the following information under the section number and heading indicated for sections 1-11 and 16. If no relevant information is found for any given subheading within a section, the SDS must clearly indicate no applicable information is available. Sections 12-15 may be included in the SDS, but are not mandatory. Note: Not all sections are mandatory: only sections 1-11 and 16. Let's review each of the sections below:
Sections of the GHS Safety Data Sheet
1. Identification
This section identifies the chemical on the SDS as well as the recommended uses. It also provides the essential contact information of the supplier. The required information consists of:
- Product identifier used on the label
- Other means of identification
- Recommended use of the chemical and restrictions on use
- Name, address, and telephone number of the chemical manufacturer, importer, or other responsible party
- Emergency phone number
