Hand and Arm Protection

Splash hood: This protects against chemical splashes, but does not protect adequately against projectiles.

How To Handle Chemical Resistant Gloves

Gloves and sleeves:These may be integral, attached, or separate from other protective clothing. They protect hands and arms from chemical contact. Wear jacket cuffs over glove cuffs to prevent liquid from entering the glove. Tape-seal gloves to sleeves to provide additional protection.

Overgloves: These provide supplemental protection to the wearer and protect more expensive undergarments from abrasions, tears, and contamination.

Disposable gloves: Should be used whenever possible to reduce decontamination needs.

Foot Protection

Safety Boots

  • Boots constructed of chemical-resistant material to protect from chemical exposure.
  • Boots constructed with some steel materials (e.g., toes, shanks, insoles) help protect against compression, crushing, and punctures by sharp objects.
  • Boots constructed from nonconductive, spark-resistant materials or coatings protect against electrical hazards and prevent ignition of gases or vapors.
  • Disposable shoes or boot covers slip over the shoe or boot. They protect boots from contamination and contact with chemicals.
