Provide Training

Training is necessary to ensure employees and managers can recognize potential ergonomics issues in the workplace, and understand available measures to minimize the risk of injury.

Effective training covers the problems found in each employee's job.

Training managers, supervisors, and employees should occur initially and at least every three years in the following topics:

  • their individual roles in the ergonomics program;
  • the recognition of MSD signs and symptoms;
  • the importance of early reporting;
  • the identification of MSD hazards in jobs in your workplace; and
  • the methods you are taking to control them.

Ergonomics training can be integrated into general training on performance requirements and job practices. However, the most effective ergonomics training covers the hazards and safe practices unique to each employee's job.

Retraining that reviews the hazards associated with MSDs, measures for eliminating or reducing hazards, and the employers ergonomics program should be conducted at least every 3 years at no cost to employees.
