Construction Fatalities

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, struck-by objects or equipment accounted for 8% of construction industry fatalities in 2022.

Struck by falling objects is the most common struck-by accident in construction.

In 2020, there were 150 deaths and 14,000 nonfatal injuries reported in the construction sector due to occupational struck-by incidents. These accidents also led to substantial financial impacts, with $1.4 billion in direct costs for non-fatal claims involving more than 5 days away from work.

In the construction industry, the most common type of struck-by accident involves being struck by falling objects. This includes incidents where workers are hit by objects such as tools, materials, or debris that fall from heights. These accidents are particularly prevalent on sites where work is being done above ground level, such as on scaffolding, roofs, or upper floors of buildings under construction.
