Crane Types
The types of cranes and derricks in the next few tabs are the most commonly used in construction and covered by OSHA's crane standard.
Mobile Cranes
These cranes use lifting devices incorporating a cable-suspended latticed boom or hydraulic telescopic boom designed to be moved between operating locations by transport over the road. Mobile cranes include crawler mounted, wheel-mounted, rough terrain, all-terrain, commercial truck-mounted, and boom truck cranes.
Hydraulic Boom Crane: A hydraulic boom crane is a type of crane that utilizes hydraulic power to operate the boom and lift heavy loads.
It is versatile and commonly used in construction and material handling applications. The hydraulic system enables precise control of the boom's movement, allowing for efficient lifting, lowering, and positioning of loads.
Latticework Boom Crane: A latticework boom crane, also known as lattice boom crane, features a lattice-like structure for its boom, which consists of interconnected metal sections.
This design provides strength and flexibility, allowing the crane to lift extremely heavy loads. Latticework boom cranes are often used in large-scale construction projects, infrastructure development, and industrial applications.
Crawler-Mounted Latticework Boom Crane: A crawler-mounted latticework boom crane combines the features of a latticework boom crane with a crawler undercarriage.
The crawler tracks provide stability and mobility, allowing the crane to move across various terrains and job sites. This type of crane is ideal for heavy-duty lifting tasks, particularly in rugged or uneven environments where wheeled vehicles might face difficulties.
