Competent Person

Competent persons are capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and have authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

Competent/Qualified Person Requirements
  • A competent person must conduct shift and monthly inspections of all equipment.
  • The Assembly/Disassembly (A/D) director must meet the test for a competent person.

In general, a qualified crane operator who has the authority to take corrective measures will be considered a competent person.
