7.8. General Requirements.

Lighting Levels

  • Illuminate facilities, accessways, and working areas as per minimum intensities specified in ANSI Workplace Lighting Standards or as stated in specific regulations like 29 CFR 1926.56 for construction sites, UFC 3-530-01 for DoD facilities, ABS guide for marine lighting, and NFPA 101 for egress and emergency lighting.

  • Measure and record illumination with a calibrated light meter when minimum lighting requirements are in question.

Lighting Fixtures

  • Guard and secure lamps and lighting fixtures to prevent injury and accidental contact or breakage.
  • Install fixtures within 7 feet of working surfaces with guards or protective means, and ensure open fixtures have wire guards or other protective devices.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 18 inches between lighting fixtures and overhead sprinkler systems in buildings.

Temporary Lighting
