  • Review and follow the guidelines in Section 12 of APL 95-1-1.

Environmental Considerations for SUAS Operation

  • Consider environmental limitations of SUAS when operating in conditions like heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Ensure SUAS is protected from the elements during operation.

Mission Risks

  • Evaluate, document, and approve mission risks in MARS or on a DD Form 2977, and then re-evaluate them prior to each SUAS mission launch.

Infrastructure

  • Document a terrain and critical infrastructure analysis of the surrounding area within a 5-mile radius as prescribed by HQ USACE for all missions.

Deliberate and Operational Risk Assessments

  • Small Uncrewed Aircraft Crewmembers (SUACs) must identify, consider, and mitigate risks during all flight phases.

Airspace

  • Classify airspace and understand associated requirements as detailed in APL 95-1-1 and FAA Airspace Guidance for Small UAS Operators.

Daily Risk Assessment Worksheets (RAW)

  • Complete the RAW as close to takeoff as possible to assess current mission risk factors. Cancel the mission if the Risk Assessment Value is higher than projected, unless written approval from the AMAA is received.

Pre-Accident Plan

  • Develop USACE Aviation Pre-Accident Plans and include them in the Aircrew Reading File as per APL 95-1-1.
