Introduction
Stairways and ladders are a major source of injuries and fatalities among workers.
According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were 161 fatalities related to ladder use in the workplace in 2020. This includes 105 deaths from portable ladders and 5 from fixed ladders. There were 22,710 nonfatal ladder-related injuries in 2020 that resulted in at least one day away from work. These injuries spanned various industries, with the highest rates occurring in installation, maintenance, and repair occupations (5,790 injuries), construction and extraction (5,370 injuries), and service industries (3,160 injuries). More importantly, most, if not all, of these injuries and deaths could have been prevented.
This training course is designed to provide both employers and employees with the knowledge needed to work safely on portable ladders, fixed ladders, and stairways.
