621 Controlling Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout)

Introduction

This course focuses on the requirements of the OSHA Standard 1910.147, The control of hazardous energy (lockout/tagout). When lockout/tagout is not performed correctly, it usually results in a serious injury or fatality.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

TO 1.0 Achieve a minimum score of 70% on the final course assessment.
LO 1.1.1 Explain the purpose of the Energy Control Program (ECP) and its core components.
LO 1.1.2 List and give examples of the various types of energy that might require LOTO.
LO 1.1.3 Describe LOTO and Tagout procedures and the criteria for the devices used for procedure.
LO 1.2.1 Discuss ECP training and retraining requirements for authorized, affected, and other employees.
LO 1.2.2 Describe the requirements for conducting ECP and LOTO inspections and taking corrective actions.
LO 1.3.1 List and discuss each of the 5 steps in a typical LOTO procedure and additional steps during shift change.
