Sharing Health Information

Under HIPAA, your health care provider can share your information in person, by phone, or in writing.

HIPAA allows healthcare providers to give prescription drugs to any person you send to pick them up.

A health care provider or plan can disclose relevant details if:

  • You grant permission.
  • You're present and don't oppose the sharing.
  • If absent, the provider believes it's in your best interest based on their professional judgment.
