Solubility

The ability or tendency of a substance (solid, liquid, gas, or vapor) to blend with another to produce a uniformly dispersed mixture is its solubility.

Compare Solubility of Salt, Sugar, and Chalk
  • An insoluble substance can be physically mixed or blended in a solvent for a short time, but is unchanged when it finally separates.
  • The solubility of a substance is independent of its density or specific gravity.
