Training and Retraining
Training in scaffold safety should be provided for both supported and suspended scaffolding in addition to general requirements for capacity and platform construction, safe access, fall protection, falling object protection, safe use, and training.
Workers should be retrained if any of the following conditions occur:
- An accident occurs during scaffold or aerial lift use as a result of a lack of employee knowledge or skills.
- Workplace hazards involving scaffolds or aerial lifts are discovered.
- A different type of scaffold or aerial lift is used.
- When employees are observed working improperly on scaffolds or operating aerial lifts due to a lack of knowledge or skills.
However, if a worker has been adequately trained and is observed intentionally working in an unsafe manner, and a root cause analysis has concluded that the safety management system did not contribute to the employee's action, disciplinary action may be the appropriate management response.
