Safety Trainer Roles

The Association for Talent Development (ATD) study, Models for Excellence, also listed the following roles that trainers typically perform:

  1. Program Administrator: Ensuring that facilities, equipment, materials, and participants are ready and that program logistics are managed smoothly.
  2. Designer: Creating objectives, outlining content, and selecting and sequencing activities for specific safety training.
  3. Strategist: Formulating long-range plans for safety training and development.
  4. Task Analyst: Identifying safety-related tasks to achieve specific outcomes.
  5. Theoretician: Developing and evaluating theories of learning, training, and development.
  6. Transfer Agent: Assisting individuals in applying new safety-related knowledge to their work.

Unfortunately, the ATD study does not list one crucial role: that of a 'Leader.' Trainers embody this role by exemplifying professionalism, both in the classroom and in the workplace.
