Select Proper PPE

Proper selection and handling of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are necessary for safe utility knife use, helping to ensure user safety and compliance.

Selection and Care of PPE:

  • Suitability: Choose PPE that is specifically designed for the tasks you are performing. The right equipment should provide adequate protection without hindering your ability to move or handle tools.
  • Fit and Comfort: PPE must fit well. Ill-fitting equipment can be as dangerous as no protection at all. Ensure that gloves, arm guards, and other items allow for full range of motion and do not impede dexterity.
  • Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect your PPE for signs of wear, tear, or damage. This includes checking for cuts, frays, or thinning in gloves and other protective clothing.
  • Proper Maintenance: Clean and maintain your PPE according to the manufacturer's instructions. Proper care extends the life and effectiveness of these items.
  • Timely Replacement: Replace any PPE that is damaged or worn out. Continuing to use compromised equipment can lead to accidents and injuries.

Equipping yourself with the right PPE, including cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and appropriate protective clothing, and maintaining them in good condition, is key to reducing the risk of injury while using utility knives.
