8-8. General Requirements.

Tags and Labels Duties

  • Mark each container of hazardous material as per chapter 6.
  • Use accident prevention tags temporarily to warn employees of hazards.
  • Ensure tags have a signal word and a clear major message, readable from a minimum distance of 5 feet.

Piping System Identification

  • Identify piping systems using ASME A13.1 color scheme and directional flow requirements.

Traffic Control Responsibilities

  • Coordinate road closings with USACE and local agencies, obtaining written approval and permits in advance.
  • Implement traffic control and signage in accordance with MUTCD and communicate with the KO or COR about any road closings.
  • Install barricades, warning signs, and lights, ensuring they meet or exceed manual requirements and are visible day and night.

Signal and Flagging System Maintenance

  • Guard signal systems against unauthorized use, damage, and weather.
  • Halt all operations immediately if the signal system fails.
