Conducting On-the-Job Training (OJT)

On-the job training (OJT) by a competent person is the most effective training model for training forklift operation.

This forklift operator must prove adequate KSAs to a competent person.

To make on-the-job training (OJT) successful, the trainer needs to know how to do effective demonstrations, coaching, modeling, and giving feedback. The trainer must have the right knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to competently train forklift operation. This module will go over the steps in the OJT process.

Trainer Competency

To be a competent on-the-job (OJT) trainer, one must receive proper instruction, training, and experience to ensure adequate KSAs.

  1. Instruction: This provides the necessary knowledge (K) about the forklifts that are the subject of the training.
  2. Training: Hands-on practice on specific forklifts is required to equip the trainer with needed skills (S).
  3. Experience: The trainer must have enough experience to develop the abilities (A) required to operate the forklifts they are teaching about.
