Level C Protection

This level of protection offers the same level of skin protection as level B, but a lower level of respiratory protection.

Donning and Doffing Tychem® 4000 S

Use Level C protection when:

  • The atmospheric contaminants, liquid splashes, or other direct contact will not adversely affect any exposed skin.
  • The types of air contaminants have been identified, concentrations measured, and a canister is available to remove the contaminant.
  • All criteria for the use of air-purifying respirators are met.
  • Atmospheric concentration of chemicals does not exceed IDLH levels.
  • The atmosphere contains at least 19.5 percent oxygen.

Equipment

The following constitute Level C equipment; it may be used as appropriate.

  1. full-face or half-mask, air purifying respirators (NIOSH approved)
  2. hooded chemical-resistant clothing (overalls; two-piece chemical-splash suit; disposable chemical-resistant overalls)
  3. coveralls1
  4. gloves, outer, chemical-resistant
  5. gloves, inner, chemical-resistant
  6. boots (outer), chemical-resistant steel toe and shank1
  7. boot-covers, outer, chemical-resistant (disposable)1
  8. hard hat1
  9. escape mask1
  10. face shield1
