Safety Management System Outputs

If the system provides quality inputs and effectively performs activities and procedures, the outputs are likely to be effectively deployed and experienced.

Good inputs lead to good outputs.

Short-term results are the specific observable-measurable outputs or products of an activity or process. They may describe specific conditions and behaviors. They focus more on what is produced immediately following a set of actions. Examples include:

  • An unguarded machine
  • Working at elevation without fall protection
  • An incident or accident

Long-term outputs are the changes or effects that are more general in nature and not so easy to identify, and they can affect the entire organization. Examples include:

  • Workers' compensation costs
  • Incident and accident rates
  • Employee morale and productivity
