Training

Your employer must provide you with fall protection training if you are exposed to fall hazards.

The training must include the following components:

  • Instruction: A competent person must instruct students on how to recognize hazards, perform safe practices, and explain appropriate procedures.
  • Demonstration: A competent person must demonstrate procedures and the use fall protection equipment.
  • Hands-on practice: An opportunity to practice fall protection equipment skills and procedures in the learning environment is required.
  • Evaluation: Students must be evaluated by a competent person to ensure adequate abilities to use the fall protection on the job.

Fall Protection training topics include:

  1. The employer's fall protection plan.
  2. Use of fall protection equipment.
  3. Inspection of fall protection equipment prior to use.
  4. Requirements for fall protection while working at elevation.
  5. Specialized training before working on scaffolds, lifts or ladders.
  6. Scaffold access, planking, stable footing and guard rail requirements.
  7. Safe practices for using ladders and platforms.
  8. Protection from floor holes and edges.
  9. Reporting fall hazards.
