Training
Your employer must provide you with fall protection training if you are exposed to fall hazards.
The training must include the following components:
- Instruction: A competent person must instruct students on how to recognize hazards, perform safe practices, and explain appropriate procedures.
- Demonstration: A competent person must demonstrate procedures and the use fall protection equipment.
- Hands-on practice: An opportunity to practice fall protection equipment skills and procedures in the learning environment is required.
- Evaluation: Students must be evaluated by a competent person to ensure adequate abilities to use the fall protection on the job.
Fall Protection training topics include:
- The employer's fall protection plan.
- Use of fall protection equipment.
- Inspection of fall protection equipment prior to use.
- Requirements for fall protection while working at elevation.
- Specialized training before working on scaffolds, lifts or ladders.
- Scaffold access, planking, stable footing and guard rail requirements.
- Safe practices for using ladders and platforms.
