Focus

Construction sites are inherently hazardous environments, with various risks present such as moving machinery, heavy equipment, elevated surfaces, and potential falling objects.

The many hazards on construction sites makes it important to work sober and focused.

By staying focused and alert, workers can identify potential dangers, avoid accidents, and protect themselves and their colleagues from harm.

Examples of factors that can cause a lack of focus and attention on the job include the following:

  • Loud talking as well as pushing, running, and scuffling while working with hand tools can also cause serious accidents.
  • Ingesting anything (alcohol or drugs, etc.) that can alter your focus on work should be avoided while working.
  • Psychosocial issues (personal, marital, and business relationships) can take your attention off work increasing the risk of an accident.

Ultimately, one of the most important characteristics of an effective safety management system is that all employees work "sober and focused." Employers should work to achieve that safety benchmark.
