Symptoms of Hand and Wrist Illnesses

Ergonomic hand and wrist illnesses, also known as musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), can manifest with various symptoms.

Here are some common symptoms associated with ergonomic hand and wrist illnesses:

  • tingling
  • swelling in the joints
  • decreased ability to move
  • decreased grip strength
  • pain from movement, pressure, or exposure to cold or vibration
  • continual muscle fatigue
  • sore muscles
  • numbness
  • change in the skin color of your hands or fingertips

These symptoms may not appear immediately. Symptoms can develop slowly over weeks, months or even years. If symptoms do appear, it's important to correct the hazard causing the symptoms before it results in a hand or wrist injury: by then, the damage may be serious.
