Initial Training and Documentation
- Provide training as per the Site-Specific Energy Control Plan (SSECP), including the purpose and function of Hazard Isolation Procedures (HIPs).
- Ensure individuals understand and can safely apply, use, and remove energy-isolating devices.
- Document the training details, including attendee names, time, date, location, and trainer qualifications.
Training for Specific Roles
- Under the SSECP, Authorized Individuals must be trained in recognizing hazardous energy sources and methods for energy isolation and control.
- Affected Persons must understand the purpose and use of HIPs.
- Incidental Individuals must be aware of energy control procedures and the prohibition against restarting or reenergizing locked or tagged out machines or equipment.
Training on Tagout Systems
- When tagout systems are used, individuals must learn the limitations of tags.
Retraining Requirements
- Retrain Authorized Individuals and Affected Persons in HIPs if there is a change in job duties, a new energy control hazard, inadequacies in HIPs knowledge or use, or annually for projects exceeding one year.
