9-3. Personnel Required Qualification/Training.

Fueling Heaters

  • Train personnel in safe fueling procedures according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Kettle Operators

  • Ensure kettle operators understand the operation of the kettle.
  • Train operators to recognize and prevent overheating of materials.

Portable Fire Extinguishers

  • Provide initial and annual training on fire extinguisher use and firefighting hazards.

Wildland Firefighting

  • Train employees in approved techniques and hazards of incipient stage wildland firefighting.
  • All wildland fire management team personnel must receive NFPA 1051 and 1143 training.
  • Ensure employees engaged in fire management are physically able to perform duties.

Firefighting Organizations

  • Train organizations according to NFPA 1710 and 1720, and hold regular fire brigade drills.
  • Provide training and demonstrations in first aid and firefighting.

Responsibilities of a Qualified Person for Fire Protection Systems

  • Conduct surveys and annual assessments to evaluate the suitability and effectiveness of fire prevention and protection measures and facilities at each project or installation as per UFC 3-601-02.
  • Keep records of the survey findings and recommendations on file at the project or installation.
  • Service, test, maintain, or repair fire detection, alarm, and mass notification systems.
