18-5. Inspection Requirements.

General Inspections

  • A Qualified Person (QP) must inspect, test, maintain, and repair all vehicles, machinery, and equipment regularly as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • A qualified mechanic must inspect all vehicles, machinery, and mechanized equipment before initial use and maintain a report of this one-time inspection at the work site.
  • Operators must conduct daily checks on vehicles, machinery, and mechanized equipment to ensure parts like brakes, steering, tires, and safety devices are in safe operating condition.

Machinery and Mechanized Equipment

  • A Competent Person (CP) must inspect machinery and mechanized equipment before use, document the inspection on a checklist, and correct any safety deficiencies noted.
  • Contractors must notify the KO or COR in advance of any equipment entry to the site for observation of inspection processes and potential spot checks.
  • Daily inspections of machinery and mechanized equipment in use must be conducted by a CP, documented, and provided to the USACE supervisor/KO or COR upon request.

Road and Shoulders

  • Conduct inspections or assessments of road and shoulder conditions and structures to ensure safe passage and placement of machinery and mechanized equipment.
