35-8. General Requirements.

Toilet Facilities

  • Employers must provide separate toilet rooms for each sex or single-occupancy rooms that can be locked from the inside, with an adequate supply of toilet paper and a holder for each seat.
  • Toilet rooms with multiple toilets must offer individual compartments with doors and walls for privacy, adequate interior lighting, seat covers, and ensure proper ventilation.
  • For construction sites, employers are required to provide chemical, re-circulating, or combustion toilets where necessary, ensure separate facilities for each sex, and make arrangements for routine servicing and cleaning.

Hand Washing Facilities

  • Employers must provide hand washing facilities with potable water, hand soap, and means for hand drying such as disposable paper towels or warm air blowers.
  • If running water is impractical, hand sanitizers with at least 60% ethyl alcohol may be used along with disposable paper towels.

Washing Facilities

  • Employers must provide adequate washing facilities near work sites for removing harmful substances, with provisions for showers if required, including one shower per ten employees, soap, and individual clean towels.

Changing Rooms

  • Employers must provide changing rooms with separate storage for street and protective clothing whenever the wearing of protective clothing is mandated.
