Level 1 Evaluation: Reaction

Level One evaluation is very important. It measures the effectiveness of the training by collecting feedback from students on the quality of the content and how the training is presented.

Did the learners like the training?

Below are some questions we want to answer.

  • Did the student enjoy the training?
  • Did students think training was applicable and useful?
  • Was the training a good use of the student's time?
  • Did they like the facilities, room setup, etc.?

This level of measurement is typically quick and easy to perform. Students can quickly give feedback on the training, and collecting and analyzing this data is not costly. Here are some methods to conduct a Level One evaluation:

  • Complete 'Happy Sheets': Students fill out sheets expressing their satisfaction with the training.
  • Feedback Forms: Students complete forms based on their personal reactions to the training.
  • Verbal Reaction: Students give their immediate feedback to the instructor.
  • Post-Training Surveys or Questionnaires: Students complete these after the training to provide detailed feedback.
  • Online Evaluation or Grading: Students rate the training or their experience online.
  • Reports to Managers: Students give verbal or written feedback to their managers at work.

You probably have completed a training evaluation form, often referred to as a 'Happy Sheet,' at the end of a training class. Sometimes, the trainer might ask you to evaluate the training later, after it's finished. OSHAcademy courses always request a Level One evaluation following each final exam. Sometimes the trainer may ask you to evaluate the training at some time after training has been completed. OSHAcademy courses always ask for an evaluation after each final exam.
