Management of Change

After considering the questions from the previous section, you might find that your training program needs one or more improvements. If that's the case, it's important to thoughtfully develop and apply these changes using effective change management principles.

Deming's PDSA Cycle

The Deming Cycle

W. Edwards Deming's Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle is a continuous loop of planning, doing, studying, and acting aimed at improving processes and products in business and manufacturing. It's a core component of quality management and lean manufacturing principles. The process is called a cycle because the four-phase process may be repeated continuously until the change is successful.

Here's a brief description of each phase in the cycle:

  • Plan: This initial phase involves identifying a goal or a problem to solve.
  • Do: In this phase, the team implements the plan on a small scale.
  • Study: The team reviews the data collected during the Do phase to evaluate whether the changes made led to improvement.
  • Act: Based on the insights gained during the Study phase, the team decides implement the change on a wider scale or start with the Plan phase again.
