Leaders Know How to Recognize
Leaders understand the power sincere recognition has in creating a successful relationship with their employees.
5 Recognition Ideas
It is essential to acknowledge employees for their safety efforts when their performance meets or exceeds expectations. But what are the safety behaviors you want to recognize?
According to OSHA mandates, there are three fundamental activities or behaviors for which employees should be commended:
- Compliance with company safety rules.
- Prompt reporting of hazards encountered in the workplace.
- Immediate reporting of any injuries sustained.
Two other behaviors may not be OSHA-mandated, but are certainly encouraged and recognized by the employer:
- Making safety suggestions.
- Active participation in the safety committee and related safety activities.
Each of these behaviors is indicative of an employee's professionalism. Complying with safety rules shows that workers values safety, and that they have the personal discipline to follow important company policies. Reporting workplace hazards can be life-saving and significantly reduce accident-related costs. Promptly reporting injuries, regardless of their severity, is a mark of professionalism because it minimizes the negative impact on both the worker and the employer, creating a win-win situation.
