Miscellaneous Aids

Tools

Special hand tools may be used to place or remove stock, particularly from or into the point of operation of a machine.

Hand Tools

A typical use would be for reaching into the danger area of a press or press brake. Holding tools should not be used instead of other machine safeguards; they are merely a supplement to the protection that other guards provide.

Push Sticks and Blocks

Push sticks and blocks are safety devices used in woodworking to protect the user's hands and fingers when cutting wood on a table saw or other cutting tool.

Push Stick and Push Block

When it becomes necessary for hands to be in close proximity to the blade, the push stick or block may provide a few inches of safety and prevent a severe injury.

A push stick is a narrow piece of wood or plastic with a handle at one end and a pointed tip at the other. It is used to push the wood through the saw while keeping the user's hands a safe distance from the blade.

A push block, on the other hand, is a flat piece of wood or plastic with a handle on top and a gripping surface on the bottom.
