15-8. General Requirements.

General Rigging Equipment and Hardware Requirements

  • Follow manufacturer's instructions and relevant OSHA and ASME B30 standards for using, inspecting, maintaining, and storing rigging equipment. Avoid loading beyond the Working Load Limit (WLL).
  • When not in active use, remove rigging equipment from the work area and store it safely in good condition.

Hoist Rope

  • Do not coil the hoist rope around the load. Secure the load to the hook with slings or suitable devices that can bear the load's weight.

Slings

  • Use slings in compliance with specific OSHA standards and provide edge protection if slings contact sharp or abrasive surfaces.
  • Ensure all slings are produced following ASME B30 guidelines and have a permanent identification tag detailing the manufacturer, material type, WLL, and number of legs (if more than one).
  • Construct eye splices according to ASME B30 standards and do not use alloy steel wire rope clips or clamps with eye slings or endless loop slings to hoist or lift material unless an RPE fabricates alloy steel wire rope clips or clamps for the specific application.
