Hands-On Training

It is critically important for a portion of the training program to include hands-on experience and exercises to provide trainees with an opportunity to gain the skills needed to safely perform procedures and operate equipment in a non-hazardous setting.

It is important to become familiar with the site-specific PPE.

Traditional hands-on training is the preferred method to ensure employees are prepared to perform these tasks safely.

The purpose of hands-on training, for example, in the donning and doffing of PPE, is twofold:

  • to ensure employees have an opportunity to learn by experience, and second,
  • to assess whether they have mastered the necessary skills.
