Training at Multi-Employer Worksites

Training requirements also extend to situations where, under the multi-employer worksite provision, an employer becomes aware that their employees are exposed to hazards for which they have not previously been trained. In such cases, it is the employer's responsibility to ensure that all affected employees receive the necessary training on these new hazards.

Training Temporary Employees

Training temporary employees is a shared responsibility between the host employer and the temporary staffing agency.

  • Host Employer: The host employer is tasked with providing training specific to their company’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) program. This includes training on specific labeling systems, chemical hazards, and safe work procedures relevant to their workplace.
  • Temporary Agency: Conversely, the temporary agency maintains a continuous relationship with its employees and is expected to provide training on the general requirements of the HCS standard.

Contracts between the temporary agency and the host employer should be carefully reviewed to ensure that they explicitly define the training responsibilities of both parties. This review is essential to verify that all training obligations under the regulation have been met and that both employers are in full compliance.
