28-8. General Requirements.
Walking-Working Surfaces and Shear Connectors
- Do not attach shear connectors to top flanges of beams, joists, or attachments in a way that they project and create tripping hazards before installing the walking-working surface.
- After installing metal decking, lay out and install shear connectors, using the decking as a working platform.
Structural Steel Assembly
- Maintain structural stability throughout the erection process.
- For multi-story structures, install permanent floors as the structure is erected, ensuring a maximum of eight stories between floors, and no more than four floors or 48 feet of unfinished bolting or welding above the secured floor, unless the design ensures structural integrity.
Bracing Equipment Installation
- Install temporary erection bracing as deemed necessary by a Competent Person (CP) to ensure structural stability.
- Do not remove bracing equipment without approval from a CP.
Metal Decking Installation
- Lay and secure metal decking tightly upon placement, fully supported by structural members, and do not lay more than 3,000 ft² before securing.
- Ensure that metal decking bundles are landed on framing members for adequate support and are secured against displacement at the end of the shift or due to environmental conditions.
- Install metal decking at roof and floor holes and openings according to specific guidelines, ensuring proper framing and protection.
Derrick Floors
- Fully deck and/or plank all derrick floors and complete steel member connections for intended floor loading.
- Distribute temporary loads on derrick floors over support members to avoid local overloading.
