28-4. Roles and Responsibilities.

Controlling Contractor Duties

  • The Controlling Contractor must develop the sequence of erection activities.
  • The Controlling Contractor must provide written notifications as specified.
  • The Controlling Contractor must ensure proper site layout and coordinate other construction processes.

Competent Person (CP) Responsibilities

  • The CP must evaluate bracing equipment and the need for guying or bracing on columns.
  • The CP must determine bolting requirements.

Qualified Person (QP) Obligations

  • The QP must provide all necessary training and prepare steel erection plans.
  • The QP must direct the use of shim packs and design alternate means of stabilizing joists.
  • The QP must approve the use of certain materials for fall arrest anchorage.

Structural Engineer of Record Responsibilities

  • The Structural Engineer must approve all repairs or modifications to anchor rods or bolts and specify bolt tightness.
  • The Structural Engineer must approve all modifications to joists and girders.
