16-8. General Requirements.

Overhead and Gantry Cranes

  • Assemble the crane as per the manufacturer's guidelines and ASME B30.2 or B30.17.
  • Clearly display the crane's rated load, ensuring visibility from the ground or floor.
  • Operators must secure outdoor cranes when not in use and halt operations if wind-indicating alarms sound.

Monorails and Under Hung Cranes

  • Construct and install as per the manufacturer's guidelines and ASME B30.17.
  • Clearly mark the rated load on the crane, ensuring legibility from the ground or floor.
  • Signal persons must correctly use the applicable hand signals.

Derricks

  • Provide load anchoring data to the relevant authority and ensure the derrick's components are suitable and securely anchored.
  • Avoid sudden movements when rotating a derrick and use taglines to control the load.
  • When not in use, properly secure the derrick boom as per the specified methods.

Handling Loads Suspended from Rotorcraft

  • Use hand signals in accordance with ASME B30.12.

Powered Industrial Trucks (PITs)/Telehandlers

  • Use PITs for hoisting only if permitted by the equipment manufacturer and follow the provided procedures.
  • Operators, riggers, and involved personnel must have documented proof of qualifications and adhere to the manufacturer's load rating capacities.
