16-3. Personnel Required Qualification/Training.

Lifting and Handling Equipment (LHE) Operator Requirements

  • Only trained, certified, and designated personnel may operate LHE, with the employer verifying their qualifications.
  • Trainees may operate under supervision, and maintenance personnel may operate for specific functions under strict conditions.

Lift Director Requirements

  • The Lift Director must be competent and qualified to handle lift operations and responsible for developing, reviewing, and approving lift plans.

Crane Operator Requirements

  • Operators must pass written and operational tests, with their qualifications verified by the employer including knowledge of safety requirements and operation manuals.
  • Operators need to demonstrate comprehension of language, arithmetic skills, and the ability to use load charts and follow procedures.

Class I Crane Operator Training

  • Initial training requires a minimum of 24 hours, with content based on equipment type and class logistics, focusing on ASME B30 requirements.
  • Refresher training is mandatory every five years, with a minimum duration of 8 hours.

Class II Crane Operator Training

  • Initial training requires a minimum of 2 hours, tailored to the equipment type and class logistics, concentrating on ASME B30 requirements.
  • Refresher training should be conducted every five years, lasting at least 1 hour.
