Officer and Crew Credentials
- Officers and crew must hold a current, valid USCG credential or endorsed document, visible in a public area onboard vessels 100 gross tons and greater.
Motorboat Operator Training
- Operators of motorboats less than 26 feet must complete a USCG Auxiliary, NASBLA, or equivalent boating safety course.
- They must also undergo motorboat handling training and pass both written and operational tests, except current USCG licensed personnel are exempt from the safety course.
- USACE employees must be trained according to ER 385-1-91.
Additional Licensing for Government Floating Plant Personnel
- Officers and crew of government floating plants need USCG licensing if the vessel meets specific criteria, such as being inspected by the USCG, operating near navigational channels, or engaging in the transfer of oil or hazardous materials.
Radar Observer Endorsement
- Operators, Masters, and Pilots of uninspected towing vessels 26 feet and greater must have a USCG Radar Observers endorsement from an approved facility.
Inspector Qualifications
- Commercial marine plant and equipment inspectors must possess a minimum of five years of commercial marine plant and equipment experience and accreditation from the National Association of Marine Surveyors or the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors.
