23-3. Personnel Required Qualification/Training.

Rope Access Supervisor/QP for Rope Access

  • Must meet and possess certification/training as a Rope Access Supervisor/QP (advanced, level 3) per industry standards (ANSI Z459.1, ISO 22846-2, ASTM E2505).

Rope Access Lead Technician/Competent Person (CP) for Rope Access

  • Must meet and possess certification/training as a Rope Access Lead Technician/CP (intermediate, level 2) per industry standards (ANSI Z459.1, ISO 22846-2, ASTM E2505).

Rope Access Technician/Authorized Technician

  • Must meet and possess certification/training as a Rope Access Technician/Authorized Technician (basic, level 1) per industry standards (ANSI Z459.1, ISO 22846-2, ASTM E2505).
  • Must have a working understanding of the Rope Access Work Plan, applicable policy, and procedures.
  • Must be capable of identifying work zones, preparing JHAs, and be familiar with rescue procedures.

Additional Training and Requirements

  • Provide refresher training every two years or as necessitated by changes in procedures, equipment, conditions, or performance inadequacies.
  • All rope access personnel using personal fall protection equipment must have Authorized Person training as per chapter 21.
  • All rope access personnel must be at least 18 years of age and physically/medically qualified for their duties.
