23-4. Roles and Responsibilities.

Rope Access Supervisor/QP for Rope Access Duties

  • Must develop, implement, and manage the Rope Access Work Plan.
  • Must supervise rope access activities and technicians, ensuring adherence to the Rope Access Work Plan.
  • Must design, evaluate, and specify the rope access equipment for use, and inspect this equipment.

Rope Access Lead Technician/Competent Person (CP) for Rope Access Duties

  • Must perform rope access work as per the Rope Access Work Plan and under the guidance of the Rope Access Supervisor/QP for Rope Access.
  • Must identify hazards, take corrective actions, and halt work if conditions are unsafe.
  • Must properly use, inspect, and maintain rope access equipment, tools, and PPE, and assist in rescue operations as outlined in the Rope Access Plan.

Rope Access Technician/Authorized Technician Duties

  • Must conduct rope access work following the Rope Access Work Plan and instructions from the Rope Access Supervisor/QP or Rope Access Lead Technician/CP.
  • Must adjust, inspect, maintain, and store rope access equipment, tools, and PPE, and verify the integrity of anchor systems.
  • Must recognize work site hazards, report them, understand and communicate warnings, and assist in rescue operations as per the Rope Access Plan.
