Description
This 10-hour General Industry: Restaurant Safety program is intended to provide workers with a variety of safety training topics associated with workplace hazards in the restaurant industry. This program helps employers meet OSHA training requirements for their restaurant staff. In addition to OSHA's required topics for general industry (6 hours), this program also provides 4 hours of restaurant-specific training, covering topics such as worker safety in restaurants, workplace hygiene and illness prevention, and ergonomic hazards in general industry.
Important Information
This program is designed to provide employees with general workplace safety and health knowledge and awareness. This program is similar, but not equivalent to the OSHA 10-hour Outreach courses. Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive an OSHAcademy 10-hour General Industry: Restaurant Safety certificate and card.

Register Now!Final Course Exam
After studying the course material and completing the knowledge check activities, students can take the course exam. The course exam is designed to test the students understanding of the course material. Course exams are composed of multiple choice questions selected from our extensive question bank.
Exam Characteristics
- Each course final exam consists of 20 questions randomly selected from a question bank.
- You have two (2) hours to complete the course exam.
- The exam is open book. You can use course modules, review notes, or the course study guide to help answer questions.
- You must achieve a minimum score of 70% to pass the exam.
- You may retake the final exam if you fail to pass it:
- You may take an exam three (3) times within a 48-hour period.
- After the third attempt, students must wait 24 hours before attempting the exam again. During this time, you should review the course material to improve your understanding.
- After each exam, you receive an email with information on missed questions. We encourage you to review the course material to improve your understanding.
- When you pass the final exam, you may not retake the exam to raise your score.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, private industry workers in full-service restaurants incurred 93,800 nonfatal injuries and illnesses in 2019. About one-third of these cases required at least one day away from work. The incidence rate of cases involving days away from work in full-service restaurants was 88.3 cases per 10,000 full-time workers in 2019.
In 2019, there were 8,110 cases of cuts and lacerations in full-service restaurants that resulted in days away from work. They occurred at a rate of 23.6 cases per 10,000 full-time workers. The rate for all private industry workers was 7.1. There is a clear need for employees working in restaurants to receive safety training to help ensure they can safely perform their work duties.
